Top 5 MUST-HAVE Accessories for the GoPro Hero 3 and 3+

I've been using my GoPro Hero cameras for over 3 years now and have used them in enough situations to come up with a list of my top 5 must have GoPro accessories and mounts. These are in no particular order and based purely on my experience.

1. Extra Batteries - Enough power for the entire day!

This is especially important if you have the Hero 3 or Hero 3+ Black Edition since the battery will last just over an hour while recording, but I still strongly recommend it for the Silver and White Edition owners. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing zero bars left of battery just before dropping in on a ski run or mountain bike trail. Save yourself the frustration and pick up some extra batteries so your GoPro will outlast you during the day. I recommend picking up the Wasabi battery kit. For the price of one GoPro battery, you get 2 batteries, a charger and a car adapter. Not to mention you get a European plug so you can charge your batteries anywhere in the world! On top of that, the Wasabi batteries have a little extra juice compared to the GoPro ones with 1200mAh versus 1180mAh. Anyone with a GoPro, regardless of what activities and sports you do, will benefit from these batteries. And considering how inexpensive they are, it's a no brainer!

2. Chesty - Wearable and provider of the best angle!

What else can I say about this mount other than it is one of my favourites! Whether you like skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, fishing, sailing, waterskiing, wakeboard, skateboarding and just about ANY other sport out there, nothing is cooler than the angle a Chesty gives you. This is a true POV (point-of-view) angle that allows the viewer to see everything in front of you including your arms and legs. When using the Chesty, I almost always use the 960p or 1440p modes which will give you the tallest field of view. In other words, you will be able to see both your hands and arms as well as your feet and legs which is especially cool while skiing. It is also a mount that is extremely easy to use. You wear it like a backpack and operating the GoPro is very easy since it's right in front of you on your chest. A quick tip when using the Chesty is to mount the GoPro upside down. I have found that this actually improves the stability of the camera. Be sure the straps are tight so the camera isn't able to shift and move too much.

As an added bonus, the Chesty works very well on medium to large dogs!

3. Adhesive Mounts

With all GoPro Hero camera purchases, you will get 1 flat and 1 curved adhesive mount. However, I strongly suggest picking up more as there are several places to use them. They are also a one-time use only mount. For me personally, I have used adhesive mounts on all of my helmets, an egg timer for time lapses, my waterski and my wakeboard. You can never have too many!

4. Suction Cup Mount - Strong and build for speed!

If you own a car, truck, motorcycle or even a plane, this is an absolute must! You can attach the suction cup to any window or glass surface as well as some body panels for some epic angles and footage. My only recommendation (especially for a plane) is to use some sort of tether. This way, if the suction cup happens to fail and lose its suction on the surface, the tether will prevent it from falling off completely. It is also a non-permanent mounting solution so you can quickly and easily change the angle as many times as you want.

5. Class 10 Micro SD Memory Card - Prevent any recording issues

Purchasing a memory card for your GoPro is not only essential to recording the footage on your GoPro but also can ensure that the footage is captured properly without any issues or failures. Since the GoPro shoots at such a high resolution and frame rate, data files are massive and because of that, you need a memory card that can handle this sort of data. GoPro has a list of recommended memory cards that have been proven to function properly with the GoPro camera ( Recommended GoPro Memory Cards ). The important parts are the Class and data transfer speed. You must purchase a Class 10 card with a data speed of 45Mbps in order to record in 4K, 2.7K, Protune modes, 0.5 second time lapse mode and some photo burst modes (30 pictures per second for example).

The maximum recommended memory card capacity is 64GB. Some card companies have started to release 128GB cards but they have not been extensively tested yet in the GoPro.
